"The provision of loan facilities for civil and public officials should stay under the control and restrictions of their agencies and/or headquarters.

The Oyo State House of Assembly during its last plenary has voted to repeal the Oyo State Staff Loans Board Bills, 2021, deeming them unnecessary and overly complicated.

The Bill, which aims to create a consolidated staff Loans Board in the Civil and Public Service of the Oyo State Government and other matters connected therewith, was stricken out at its second reading stage in the legislature on Tuesday.

Hon. Adeola Bamidele, who represents the Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated that the provision of loan facilities for civil and public officials should stay under the control and restrictions of their agencies and/or headquarters.

He said, “TESCOM, SUBEB, Ministries and others have a car, housing loans provisions for secondary school teachers, primary school teachers and civil servants respectively.

“The proposed bill requesting for a unified loan board for the entire state does not present any strong reason nor raise any flaw against the existing civil service loan structure. Therefore, we should consider it needless.”

The viewpoint was also supported by Hon. Adebayo Babajide, who represents Ibadan North Constituency II, who claims that having a single board to handle the issues of the whole employees of Oyo State will be too onerous and, as a result, ineffective.

Stating his view, the Speaker; Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin stated that if the current system is serving the people well, fusion is unnecessary.

He said, “Since the inception of this assembly, we have not received or heard of any theft case against the TESCOM car loan and other loans State that are State’s provision.

“The house has considered this needless as it has possibilities of creating more problems instead of solving any.”
