Ibadan Media Publisher, Ola Olanrewaju Becomes Oyo SWAN Executive
The publisher and CEO of Ibadan Media Limited, Olalekan Olanrewaju OLA, has been elected as one of ex-officio of the Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter.
Ibadan media boss emerged as an executive member of this noble association at the first congress of Oyo SWAN in 2021, which was held at the NUJ Press Center, Iyaganku Ibadan.
The Chairman of the body, Comrade Niyi Alebiosu in his remark described Olanrewaju has an active and dedicated member of the association for the past 4 years.
"I could remember during SWAN Workshop in Nov. 2018, he was part of the committee for that year's event, his activeness attracted my attention, and I was like, who is this handsome-looking young man.
"He was awarded by the Chairman/Consultant of 2018 SWAN Workshop Organizing Committee, Mr. Femi Okenla due to his activeness.
"Since then I have been carefully noticing him in any of the association's activities and other assignments so it's not a surprise when he emerged today as an ex-officio.
"From my findings, Olanrewaju has also been an upward mobile media practitioner who had organised notable events in the past which includes: 'Journalists Hangout' and 'Oyo State Most Influential Personality Awards', and has also passed through the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), which qualified him for an elective position." Noted the Oyo SWAN boss.
Also at the congress, a photojournalist with the SUN newspaper, Gbenga Olugbodi, was also elected unopposed as the vice-chairman of the association, others are, Blessing Fowowe as the assistant secretary, Olawale Hamzat, popularly known as Top Striker as financial secretary and two others as the ex-officio.
Alebiosu speaking further after the swearing-in of the newly elected excos, said the election and appointment became necessary to fill the vacant space in the executive to move the association forward.
Alebiosu lamented the low turnout of members during the congress, calling on them to unite and come together to champion the same cause to restore the glory of the association. He said, “Oyo SWAN used to be at the forefront of sport writing in Nigeria.
We need to come together and reclaim our glory. Let’s all hands be on the deck so that we can achieve our aims and objectives.”
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Comrade Demola Babalola also known as Dembab, which was represented by the NUJ Secretary, Sola Oladapo congratulated the new excos and also called for SWAN members and other arms of the Journalist to come for their registration with Oyo Chapter of NUJ.
"We first known you as a journalist before you have a beat, either SWAN, NAWOJ, or any other existing beats, we enjoin you on behalf of my chairman, Dembab, to register with NUJ so that you can have your union identity card if you have not gotten yours", said Oladapo.
Also at the congress was NUJ treasurer, Akeem Abass, who was formerly the vice Chairman of Oyo SWAN.
In his acceptance speech, Olanrewaju thanked Oyo SWAN members for the opportunity given to him and promised to serve in that capacity for the benefit of the association, while appreciating Oyo NUJ excos in attendance.
