He explained that Ibadan is a paragon of culture, tourism, and art and that is why the city (Ibadan) should lead in cultural apsect.
Oyo State Is Fast Becoming Tourism Destination Hub Under Makinde's Administration- Wale Ojo-Lanre
The Senior Special Assistant to Ekiti State Governor on Tourism Development and former Oyo NUJ boss, Amb. Wale Ojo-Lanre has confirmed Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to be an important destination for tourism, arts, and culture in southwest Nigeria.
In a chat with Ibadan Media correspondent, Ojo-Lanre said the biggest city in West Africa has all the potentials to be the Centre of Tourism because it has lots of tourist destinations, part of which he mentioned was the Adebisi Idikan house, with over a hundred bedrooms in the edifice built almost 100 years ago, Agbaje Salami house in Ayeye, Penkenlemesi's house, Aafin Irefin, and many others.
“Cultural creativity is manipulated from Ibadan when you talk about Prof. Wole Soyinka, Bode Sowande and several other influential people started from Ibadan, so Ibadan is a paragon of culture, tourism, and art and that is why the city should lead.”
“Ibadan is the home of many first, so that is enough for people to come and visit the town for tourism purposes.
When asked what he thinks can transform the tourism sector of Ibadan and South West as a whole being the senior special assistant to Ekiti State Governor on Tourism Development? He firstly commended the effort of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his great works in the city and the State at large.
In his words, "Engineer Seyi Makinde who is a cosmopolitan Governor is transforming the city to a beautiful one that will attract outsiders to visit the state regularly".
"I am a Journalist, a Lawyer, and a Publicist. I am not a politician, am a technocrat in politics, so I should be able to say the truth irrespective of party affiliation, the party is just a name to me; we should all have an ideology that an APC politician can be in PDP tomorrow, all am saying is that I came to Ibadan in 1991, although, I have been visiting Ibadan since 1973. I don't know where you were then so if am talking about the transformation from a city to a cosmopolitan city I know what am saying.
"Oyo State has a Governor who believed things must change rapidly, Late Ajimobi tried a lot in terms of tourism in Oyo state, but Makinde is doing well and he's not only sustaining what his predecessor has done but improving greatly on it and that is why you are seeing that they are building up bus terminals, if you go to Brazil, a bus terminal is just like an airport so that is what is changing the view of Oyo State, particularly in Ibadan which is good and touristic, that will add value to the state.”
He however, appreciated the efforts of the Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Tourism and Culture, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige for a job well done and some of the good plans he has unfolded.
