Over 20 people have been reportedly killed in Igangan in Ibarapa North local government Area of Oyo State as suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded the community in the early hours of Sunday and opened fire on the resident last night.

Residents of Igangan in Ibarapa who confirmed to our correspondent have claimed that some suspected Fulani herdsmen close to 50 in number were said to have invaded the town around 11 pm in more than 20 motorcycles invaded their community in the early hours of Sunday and unleashed terror on the people.

An activist who is also the Secretary of Farmers Union based in the town, Mr. Taiwo Adeagbo, told our correspondent that no fewer than 20 lives were lost during the invasion.

Adeagbo said no fewer than five residents were shot dead by the attackers while security agents also killed five of the herdsmen.

He said the Palace of the Asigangan, petrol station, cars, and a truck were burnt down by the attackers.

He said, ” The Fulani terrorist wages war on Igangan from around 11 midnight today on Saturday.

“They burnt many properties- cars, a truck and burnt a petrol filling station.

” We will know the exact number of people killed, those injured and the number of properties they destroyed in the morning. It is still dark now things will be clearer later.”

Some residents also called asking our correspondent to reach out to security agents to come to their rescue.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, could not be reached.

Messages were sent to his telephone but he was yet to reply the messages to confirm the alleged attack and the number of casualties.
