2027: Nigeria Must Avoid Becoming a One-Party State – Makinde

Oyo State Governor,  Engr.Seyi Makinde, has called on Nigerians to ensure that the country does not become a one-party state as the 2027 general elections approach.

According to Daily Trust, Addressing speculations about a potential presidential bid, Engr. Seyi Makinde Definitely dismissed the rumors, stating that he would make any such decision public himself if he chose to run.

During a conversation with journalists at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo,Engr. Seyi Makinde emphasized that his achievements in office were not driven by personal political ambitions. 

\"We didn’t accomplish these things because someone has presidential ambitions. I am old enough to make my own decisions, and if I decide to do something, I will say it. No one can impose their agenda on me,\" he affirmed.

Makinde underscored the importance of preserving Nigeria’s multiparty democracy, warning about the risks of a single political party monopolizing power. 

Reflecting on his 2019 election victory, he noted that the people of Oyo State chose him without the influence of any political godfathers, highlighting the importance of independence in leadership.
