16 January

Reported by Ibadan Media

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State Sector Command, has reacted to the viral video of the alleged unprofessional conduct during the burning of a Micra vehicle in Sango area of Ibadan.

Chief Route Commander/Public Relation Officer of the command, Mayowa O ODEWO said, in a statement obtained by Ibadan Media correspondent on Thursday, 16th of Feb. 2025.

According to him, he said "FRSC's attention has been drawn to the viral video online after a Nissan Micra was engulfed with flame at Sango-Ibadan at about 14:30 hrs on January 13, 2025.

"The FRSC is committed to timely intervention in rescuing road traffic crash victims. It should be noted that the video did not capture the activities of the FRSC personnel when the flame began as the video captured in only 28 seconds after the FRSC had exhausted the content of their fire extinguisher, all in an attempt to rescue the micra vehicle from further damage.

"It should be noted that the FRSC team leader had already called the Fire Services team for prompt rescue support while the efforts of the FRSC and passers-by to put out the flame was going on.

"It should be noted from the short video that one of the arresting Marshals teamed up with a passerby to remove the battery head of the burning Micra vehicle, while another member of the team was busy controlling traffic to safeguard other road users, and the other staff was making a call to the Fire Services.

"Let it be stated clearly to the general public that no FRSC vehicle is without the prescribed and approved fire extinguisher, and this can be verified.

"The FRSC is a responsible organization primarily concerned with the safety and welfare of the citizens.

"We are assuring the general public of our readiness to create a safer motoring environment to continually improve our mode of operations.

Thank you", he concluded.
