International Tournament: Ibadan Polo Club Set To Host 2024 Edition

The Ibadan Polo Club is set to host its 2024 edition of the annual International Tournament: NPA/Shoreline Ibadan International Polo tournament scheduled to be held from Monday, 20th to Sunday, 26th of May, 2024 at the Ibadan Polo Club Grounds, Eleyele Road Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.

This was revealed today at the press conference organized by the organizing committee, in Ibadan.

While addressing the pressmen, the president of the club, Mr. Kayinsola Owoeye emphasized the importance of such an annual event and used the opportunity to appreciate the sponsors for their tremendous contributions: Shoreline Energy International (Shoreline) and other sponsors for their contributions to the growth of the Polo in Oyo state.

In his remarks, the Vice President and the Tournament Chairman of the Ibadan Polo Club, Abimbola Adeyemi, said this year’s edition promises to be exciting and wonderful. He also noted that they were expecting a couple of teams from Lagos, Port Harcourt, Jos, Kano and Kaduna.

‘’It promises to be a fascinating time on and off the field, entertainment is going to be great as usual, Ibadan is hospitable and our tournaments over time have been good, this is going to be exciting, nothing different. We also have DSTV and a couple of key sponsors on this with us.’’

“This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the key sponsors like the Oyo State Government, Shoreline, MTN, DSTv Nigeria, IHS Towers of Strength, MACADAMS Baking Systems, Graham Beck, Banwo & Ighodalo, Lead City Group, Bluechip Technologies, among others, he added.

Also speaking, Entertainment Secretary, Olufela Yomi-Layinka assured of maximum security and provision of medical services to both players and spectators throughout the tournament.

The tournament will run from Monday, the 20th to the 26th of May, and players will start arriving on Sunday the 19th. The top handicaps for the game include; Diego White (+5), Asharaf Yahaya (+3), Kwame Isa (+3), and Abdulrahman Mohammed (+3). The first game on Monday is at 8:30 pm, between Leadcity and Lagos Ikoyi groups. There would be guests of honour for the official kick-off every day.

The kick-off match scheduled for the opening day is between the Lead City Team and their counterpart from Lagos Ikoyi on Monday at 3:30 pm for the Ade Alakija Memorial Cup.
