Oseni Urges Contractors To Uphold High Standards In Road Construction

The Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Aderemi Oseni, has issued a stern warning to contractors regarding substandard work on Nigeria’s road projects.

Oseni emphasized the importance of strict adherence to project specifications, highlighting that poor-quality construction continues to be a leading cause of road failures across the country.

Speaking at the Oyo Federal Roads Stakeholders Engagement in Ibadan, an event organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Oseni, who represents the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, stressed that contractors must prioritize professionalism and deliver projects that truly benefit the public.

He stated, "In many cases, road failures aren’t due to overloading but rather the result of subpar construction by contractors. If roads were built according to specifications, maintenance costs across the country would be substantially lower.

Deviating from these standards only leads to increased maintenance expenses and deteriorating infrastructure.”

According to The Nations, Oseni also expressed appreciation for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, for granting Oyo State a significant honor by appointing lawmakers from the state as leaders of both the House Committees on Works and FERMA.

He further commended the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for his innovative approach to managing the nation’s road infrastructure and noted that tangible improvements are already becoming evident across Nigeria.

"We are witnessing a noticeable shift in the state of our road infrastructure. The ongoing reforms are taking shape, and it is crucial that we capitalize on this opportunity to achieve the best possible outcomes for both our state and the country as a whole,” Oseni remarked.

In closing, Oseni praised President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing efforts to implement reforms across various sectors, particularly in road infrastructure development, which are already producing positive results.

"We have a president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is dedicated to addressing Nigeria’s challenges. His approach to improving road infrastructure stands as a testament to his commitment,” Oseni concluded.
