The Oyo State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its indefinite strike action.

Chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr Akin Fagbemi, confirming the decision, said the union suspended the strike earlier declared, after the intervention of the Oyo State Government.

According to The Leadership, a letter suspending the strike was jointly signed by the state Chairman, Adeyemi Samuel and Secretary, Comrade Aina Emmanuel, said the decision followed the commitment of the state government pledging to address the demands placed before it by the leadership of association.

The letter said the Oyo State Council of NANNM “has approved for suspension of our indefinite strike for one month,” adding that, “This is to allow for the implementation of the remaining approved agitations.”

“In the light of the above, all our members across the state have been directed to resume back to their duty from Wednesday 24th July 2024.”

The association also expressed optimism that the state government “will not relent in your efforts in meeting all our demands.”

Reacting to the suspension, Dr Fagbemi lauded the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde who he said had assured the nurses of the implementation of their demands.
