Respect Visiting Teams - CAF President Urges Amid Investigation Of Nigeria, Libya Fiasco

22 October

Reported by Ayooluwa Afolabi

CAF President, Patrice Motsepe has urged nations on the continent to endeavor to treat visiting teams with respect and dignity.

According to Vanguard, Motsepe made the call amid investigations into the Super Eagles of Nigeria being detained at the Libya airport for hours after their flight was diverted.

Recall the African football governing body has launched a probe into the incident with the verdict to be made public.

Speaking about the incident, Motsepe reiterated that an investigation is still ongoing on the case and that appropriate action will be taken.

He, however, noted that CAF as a body will not tolerate a lack of sportsmanship.

His words, “It is the lack of sportsmanship that has overtaken and taken effect.

I just want to repeat that we are proud of those nations that treat visiting teams and visiting football clubs with the respect and dignity that they deserve, and who also treat them in the same way they want to be treated when they visit those countries.

“So, I want to repeat that we are reviewing those laws and we want to emphasize sportsmanship. When a national team or football club visits, treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve, and if there are violations of those rules, then we will take action.”
