Security Operatives Invade Abuja NLC Headquarters

08 August

Reported by Ayooluwa Afolabi

Heavily armed security operatives late Wednesday night invaded the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Headquarters, Abuja, commonly known as Labour House.

Though details of the invasion are still sketchy, Vanguard reported that the stern-looking operatives stormed the Labour House some minutes to 9 pm and ransacked both the Second and 10th floors.

According to Vanguard, a source said that “Comrades, armed security men, both in uniform and mufti just invaded the Labour House in their numbers and were at the 10th Floor and 2nd Floor.

“They broke into the second floor and ransacked books at the bookshop carrying all the materials into their van claiming that the materials were used to incite and organize the recent protest.”

The NLC condemned the attack which it described as the new low in security operations in Nigeria.

It said, “The armed security operatives showed no legal document permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the ungodly hours of the night.

“Even in the dark days of military rule, NLC secretariats were never invaded and ransacked by security agents. Today is indeed a very sad day for our democracy.”

The Labour said that having condemned the government’s actions against EndBadGovernance protesters, what it did not see coming was the invasion of its house by masked and heavily armed security operatives.
