President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is presiding over the 20th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, a week after the meeting scheduled for last Wednesday was called off due to the death of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The meeting, which began at 1:11 p.m., is the council's first Thursday meeting, following a pattern of meetings held on Mondays and Wednesdays in the past.

Attendees include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, and the representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. Emanso Okop, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office.

However, the Minister of Environment, Abbas Lawal, and several other council members are absent, as they are attending the 2024 UN Climate Change Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.

According to The Punch, representatives from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning filled in for a presentation to the Council, likely in preparation for President Tinubu’s 2025 budget presentation.

The meeting is expected to focus on key government initiatives, including those related to the upcoming budget.
