Oyo State Governor Advocates For UNESCO Recognition Of Igbo Ora Twins Festival

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed his ambition to elevate the Igbo Ora Festival of Twins and Multiple Births to UNESCO World Heritage status, aligning with his administration\'s efforts to boost the state\'s economy through tourism. 

Speaking at the annual World Twins Festival held at Methodist Grammar School, Igbo Ora, on Saturday, Makinde highlighted the festival\'s unique cultural significance. The event was themed \"Twinning for Love, Unity, and National Economic Reorientation.\"

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor emphasized the importance of the festival to Ibarapaland and the wider Oyo State, pledging continued support for its promotion. He noted the state\'s commitment to developing infrastructure to facilitate tourism, including the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ido/Eruwa road.

Represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, Makinde assured attendees of the government\'s dedication to improving facilities and creating an environment conducive to tourism. He highlighted the remarkable statistic that 10% of births in Igbo Ora are twins and urged the community to cherish this unique aspect of their culture.

Makinde also encouraged parents of twins to support their children\'s aspirations and called for the establishment of a permanent venue to honor the festival. He concluded by reaffirming the state\'s commitment to elevating the festival to an international standard that could attract visitors from around the globe.
