Weeks Before Election, Ondo Governor Approves N775 Million For Remodelling Of Gov’t House

16 October

Reported by Ayooluwa Afolabi

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has allegedly approved N775,069,741.21 for the remodeling of the Government house, fence, and gate.

According to the Standard News, a recent document revealed that the contract was awarded to Buonayanett Limited, just weeks before the election.

Critics have argued that the project’s cost is excessive and unjustified, particularly considering the state’s financial constraints.

Lawyer and activist Kayode Mogbojuri expressed concerns on Facebook. He said, “Aiyedatiwa is becoming financially reckless, and Ondo State people need explanations on how the state’s resources are being spent.”

Another Facebook user, Funmilayo Moyosoore, echoed similar sentiments, asking, “Who will curtail Lagidigba?”

Investigations revealed that Buonayanett Limited has no online presence or has undertaken other projects in the country.

This is not the first time Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has faced criticism for its spending.

In April 2024, it was revealed that N5 billion had been allocated in the budget for the renovation of a Day Care Centre/Creche.

However, the Ondo state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Emmanuel Igbasan later attributed this large allocation to a typographical error, the Standard News reported.
